Terms of use
Last updated: 1 October 2026
These terms apply to TaxXML.ca, a free tool offered by AVANZA Business Automation for people and businesses in Canada. Using the site means you accept these terms. How information is handled is described in the Privacy page.
What the tool is
TaxXML.ca converts a spreadsheet in your browser into an XML file for Canadian information returns the tool currently supports: NR4 (Statement of Amounts Paid or Credited to Non-Residents of Canada), T4 (Statement of Remuneration Paid), T1204 (Government Service Contract Payments), and T5018 (Statement of Contract Payments). You download the file. If you file it, you do that yourself through the CRA Internet File Transfer (IFT) service, or another channel you choose.
The tool is a converter. It does not open a CRA account, transmit a return, or confirm that the CRA has accepted a file.
Not the Canada Revenue Agency
TaxXML.ca and AVANZA Business Automation are not the Canada Revenue Agency. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for the CRA. Names of CRA forms and technical specifications are used only to describe the file the tool tries to produce. “Submit to CRA (IFT)” is a link to the CRA’s own site.
Not tax, legal, or accounting advice
Nothing on this site is tax advice, legal advice, accounting advice, or payroll advice. The tool does not decide what you must report, whether a slip is required, which amounts belong in which box, or whether a return is complete or on time. Warnings shown in the tool are checks the page can run locally. They are not a CRA ruling and they are not a sign that a file will be accepted. For advice, speak with a qualified professional or the CRA.
You are responsible for what you file
You are responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timing of every information return you prepare or submit. That includes every name, amount, social insurance number, business number, and other field in the XML file, and the transmitter and payer details you type.
Review the file before you upload it to IFT. A file the tool produces can still be rejected, and the CRA can assess penalties or ask for a correction. AVANZA does not submit the file for you and does not check it against the CRA’s live validation service. You need the right to use the personal information in the spreadsheet, including social insurance numbers.
A free tool, and optional donations
The converter is free. You do not need an account, and you do not pay a filing fee to TaxXML.
“Buying me a coffee” is optional. The link opens a Stripe donation page. A donation is not a purchase of the tool, not a payment to the CRA, and not a fee for preparing or filing a return. The tool stays available whether or not you donate. Stripe’s own terms apply to that payment.
No warranty
The site is provided free of charge and as is. CRA schemas and validation rules change. A file that looks ready in the tool may still fail validation. AVANZA Business Automation does not promise that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular filing.
To the extent Canadian law allows, AVANZA is not liable for penalties, interest, rejected filings, lost time, or other loss connected with use of the site or with the contents of a file you submit. Some laws do not allow certain limits. Where that is so, the limit applies only as far as the law allows. Nothing in these terms takes away rights that cannot legally be waived.
Acceptable use
Do not misuse the site, interfere with it, or use it to prepare a filing you know is false. Do not try to present TaxXML.ca as an official CRA service.

Canadian law
The tool is built in Canada for Canadian information returns. These terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the laws of the province or territory that apply, without any choice-of-law rule that would point somewhere else.
Changes
AVANZA may update these terms by posting a new version on this page. The date at the top shows when they were last updated. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
